Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda is a poetic, reflective portrait of one of the most important artists of our era, whose career spans four decades, from pop star, to actor, to Oscar-winning film composer. Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and The Last Emperor are among his achievements. Following the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Sakamoto became an iconic spokesman against nuclear power. When he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 he stopped working but was lured back to write the score for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s The Revenant. Coda reflects upon his personal crisis, and that of his country and the whole world. It stands as both a portrait of an extraordinary career and an intimate examination of the creative process.
